Whether you are a shopper, a hiker, or nature lover, Wurtsboro is sure to have an activity that you'll enjoy! Is shopping your thing? If so, then one pass down Sullivan Street is all you’ll need to whet your appetite! You’ll find many cozy shops tucked into the buildings along our main street containing a wide range of items such as antiques, pets, gifts, gardening needs, toys, and a myriad of other things. While you’re shopping, be sure to stop in any of Wurtsboro’s restaurants, coffee houses, or cafes to fuel up! Also, don’t forget the shopping to be found in Wurtsboro off the beaten path. Check this guide for locations.
Perhaps something a bit more strenuous than shopping is your thing? How about a hike? We’ve got miles of trails for you to explore and discover. Take a leisurely stroll through our local history along the towpath of the D&H Canal and allow yourself to drift back to a time when this waterway was bustling with activity. For a more challenging hike, consider one of the many state-blazed trails along the mountain range on the east end of the village. Topo maps can be had from a local shop. If you want to check out the scenery but without the hike, you can always consider a horseback tour!
For the nature lover, no visit to Wurtsboro would be complete without a stop at the Basha Kill Wildlife Management Area. Located about 2½ miles south of the village, this 3,000 acre preserve is a great place to spend an afternoon with a loved one and a picnic basket! Here you’ll discover the real definition of the word serene as you drink in the beauty of the scene before you. Depending on the time of year, you can head out in your canoe or kayak to explore the nooks and crannies of this unique body of water, or fish from one of the many locations around the Kill. For the birdwatcher, you’ll be pleased to know that there are some 220 species of birds that use the Basha Kill throughout the course of a year – providing you with a great opportunity to add these birds to your life list
We are glad that you decided to visit Wurtsboro, and we sincerely hope you enjoy your visit, whether for a day or a lifetime!
